How to fix a server problem

All hardware can fail. Most often the hardware suffers if the operation violates the requirements and standards, there are excessive loads. To prevent possible troubles, you should know what causes it and how to fix server problems.

Each data center offers a set of software to monitor the correct operation of servers. By constantly scanning the network, irregularities and possible system failures are detected.

Typical server problems:

  • reduced speed of loading pages, the time is more than three seconds;
  • security breach due to viruses or cyber hackers;
  • excessive traffic volume, causing damage to the server;
  • hardware or software failures;
  • complete server failure caused by unforeseen events (fire, major cyber attack, natural disaster).

Why are there problems with the server

The malfunction can be caused by negligence, namely:

  • physical damage to the equipment;
  • saving on equipment that protects against power surges;
  • the use of ordinary PCs as a server;
  • overheating due to lack of proper cooling in the server room;
  • lack of backup power (AVR).

Technical malfunction:

  • server hard drive failure;
  • exceeding the permissible load on the ATS;
  • burnout of cheap cables;
  • wear and tear of uninterruptible power supply batteries.

The human factor:

  • errors in hardware connection and configuration;
  • installation of unlicensed software, disabling firewall, unauthorized access to the data center.

How to avoid server problems

To minimize the consequences of a server problem, you must:

  • make regular backups;
  • create a fault-tolerant cluster;
  • implement specialized monitoring complexes;
  • perform preventive maintenance of equipment;
  • maintain the necessary level of cooling, use uninterruptible power supplies;
  • contact professionals rather than trying to solve the problem on your own.

Additionally, in order to fix the server problem, it is required:

  • view event logs;
  • verify the integrity of the physical hardware;
  • check HDD errors, run anti-virus and memory test;
  • make sure the disk space is being used correctly.

When a server problem arises, it’s important to have in-depth knowledge of how to fix it, not hurt it even more. Server troubleshooters have the competence to perform a full range of repair work, data recovery, service maintenance, tamper protection, monitoring, prevention, and upgrades.

In large data centers, such problems are almost uncommon. All services are regulated and the necessary conditions are created to ensure fault tolerance of the equipment.
