XaaS is an abbreviation in which the letter “X” conventionally stands for any cloud service, and the abbreviation stands for Anything-as-a-Service. That is, XaaS is a model for offering any service that can be provided using cloud technologies. Such services include SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, CaaS, DBaaS and many others.
XaaS is the result of the evolution of networking and, by extension, cloud services. Initially, companies in need of information technology had to invest in their own hardware and incur maintenance costs. With the development of cloud services, it became clear that in many cases it is more profitable to outsource IT services.
First stage of such changes was SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions, when it became possible to use software products via the Internet. Then PaaS and IaaS were implemented, providing access to platforms and turnkey infrastructures, respectively. With the current development of cloud technologies, almost any service related to the organization of infrastructure or the use of software can be provided remotely via the cloud.
