A firewall is a hardware and software system for filtering incoming traffic according to predefined parameters. Its main task is to protect the corporate network from the actions of intruders. Firewall is a mandatory means of protection for any corporate network infrastructure. It not only filters traffic, but also serves to prevent leaks of confidential information.
In addition to the main tasks, the firewall can also perform the following additional tasks:
- Compile event logs
- Record suspicious activity
- Keep records of network hardware
- Analyze port usage and network connections
Using a firewall is not a universal protection tool and does not guarantee complete network security. Firewalls are most effective when used in conjunction with antivirus software.
