Hyperscaler

Hyperscalers are large-scale data centres that serve as the infrastructure base for major cloud service providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and others.

Hyperscalers are huge in size and are capable of serving hundreds of millions of users simultaneously. Another important difference is their ability to scale capacity on demand. Hyperscaler management systems can distribute high-performance computing tasks across multiple physical machines and thus optimise the load.

Traditional data centres are typically centralised systems with a smaller number of more powerful physical machines. As a result, scaling up is more likely to occur through hardware upgrades. Hyperscalers scale capacity by adding additional physical machines to the circuitry.
