IIS (Internet Information Services) is web server software developed by Microsoft and bundled with Windows family operating systems. The IIS web server allows hosting websites and web applications, supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, POP3, SMTP, NNTP exchange protocols.
The first version of the software appeared in Windows NT in 1995. All modern Microsoft operating systems, including Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016, are equipped with updated versions of the software.
By default, IIS is disabled. To enable it, you need to go to the control panel and activate the server as a component.
