A model of information service delivery in which a vendor provides these services to a business. The service provider can be either an internal IT department of a company or an external contractor. Information technology under the IT as a Service model is provided as a managed service with a set of specific options and prices. For example, large cloud providers may offer dedicated servers, development environments and software products to the customer as an off-the-shelf solution.
Often for this reason, ITaaS is referred to in the context of cloud service delivery. For example, the IaaS, PaaS and SaaS models can be seen as a special case of ITaaS, but the IT as a Service model is broader. Companies that provide services for data centre relocation, repair or configuration of equipment on the customer’s premises can also formally classify their activities under IT as a Service.
