Latency

Latency is a technical term used in network administration to refer to the time it takes to transfer data packet from one point in the network to another. Latency measures the amount of latency of a network or Internet connection.

Increased latency can be due to hardware or software performance, or incorrect network settings. The lower the latency time, the better the system performs. Latency is measured in milliseconds.
