Trojan

The term “trojan” refers to malicious software that masquerades as a legitimate application. The term itself is a reference to the ancient Greek story of the Trojan horse, with the help of which, according to myths, the Greeks were able to capture Troy.

The main difference between trojan and viruses and worms is that this software does not reproduce. Its task is to work stealthily in the system, collect data and send the information to attackers. There are different types of trojans:

  • Spy trojan: give attackers access to your messengers.
  • Proxy trojan: use an infected device to send spam.
  • Backdoor trojan: give attackers administrator access rights.

Popular sources of trojans include fake websites, pirated software, and emails from unknown recipients with intriguing offers.
